Quick Aid for Foot Pain

Do you experience a lot of pain in the arch of your foot or heels? Is this pain especially bad when you wake up in the morning or after a whole day of being on your feet? Perhaps you notice the pain after wearing unsupportive shoes, heels, or going barefoot? These are all signs of Plantar fasciitis, a common problem where the tendon (plantar fascia) which helps bend your toes become inflammed. There are many conservative treatments for plantar fasciitis, including a stretching program, taping, physical therapy, and orthotic inserts for your shoes. All of these treatments and more can be used by your podiatrist to help relieve your foot pain. The best way to alleviate this pain is to set up an appointment with our office by calling 419-423-1888. You can also reach us by email at vailmedassist@sbcglobal.net or visit our website at http://www.vailfoot.com/. In the mean time, try this trick to alleviate your pain:

Fill a 20 oz. water bottle about 3/4 to most of the way full and place it in your freezer. Allow the bottle to freeze and when you experience pain (the morning for example, or after a long day) take the water bottle out and place it on the ground. Roll the water bottle under your foot from your heel to the ball of your foot (where your toes meet the bottom of your foot). The cold of the bottle will help soothe the pain, and the rolling of the bottle provides an important stretch to the tendon and surrounding muscle. This rolling of the water bottle back and forth also stretched the tendon and muscles gradually, avoiding trauma to the foot. You can perform this exercise either seated or standing, especially depending on your balance.
